Volcano Boarding
Volcano Boarding on Cerro Negro Volcano
Volcano boarding is a fast paced, dangerous sport that takes place on the Cerro Negro volcano near the city of Leon in Nicaragua.

Although other volcanoes around the world have been used for the sport, the Cerro Negro is still active; making it one of the more extreme volcano boarding locations. Another location the sport is practised is  Mt. Yasur in Tanna, Vanuatu.

The sport requires the participant to climb to the top of the volcano with a sled-like board. They can then either sit or stand on the board, using a rope for balance as they speed down the volcano.

Volcanic ash on the side of the volcano makes the sport possible as it helps the board slide with ease similarly to sand boarding.
